Keywords for Advertising Account on AdWords
-
My website sells flowers, mostly roses and specialty bouquets (for special occasions birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc.) I am working on developing an online advertising campaign with AdWords and I was hoping to get some help from the researcher team on creating an effective keyword list to make my ads account more cost effective. Other items to note about my store: 1. Discounts/Specials a. Dozen roses for $29.99 b. 10% off special occasion bouquets c. Buy one get one half off holiday bouquets and centerpieces 2. Shipping a. we will ship to anywhere in the U.S. within 3 days of order b. free shipping for purchases over $300 My current list is as follows: fresh grow weed soil leaves red green fertilizer flowers plants rose plants rose plant Valentine Flowers for Valentines day potted plants What I am hoping to get in my answer is: 1. Of my current keywords, which should I keep or modify to make more effective? (i.e. I read something about broad matching keywords vs. exact matching or phrase matching? And, what about negative keywords? Would these help make my campaign produce better results?) 2. What other keywords can you suggest? Currently, my site is down, as it is undergoing some maintenance and upgrades. To give you an idea about my site and its content please see, http://www.nationwideflowers.com/index.cfm

Answer:
Hello gogaucho33, Negative keywords help remove certain searches and can be useful to eliminate misdirected ads. People searching for fresh meat would still turn up results if you used the current fresh keyword in your list. If you had fresh with the negative keyword meat, people using that combination would not turn up your results saving you money. Exact matching and Phrase matching will give you more direct hits, but it also might eliminate potential customers. I used the Keyword Suggestion Tool to find some negative words and to make recommendations for you. First lets go through your list and then I will give some additional keyword recommendations. Hopefully this will get you started and you will have a successful Google Adwords Campaign from the very start! Your current list: -fresh I personally would not use the word fresh by itself. Perhaps: fresh cut flowers fresh flowers would be much more cost effective. -grow I do not think that this is a good keyword for you and it would probably result in a lot of wasted ads. -weed Again, this keyword does not seem well suited to your needs. People who search for weed control, marijuana, weed plants are probably unlikely customers. -soil This is not a good keyword unless you sell soil. Even then, it is probably too broad. People researching soil types, agriculture etc. are probably unlikely to be shopping. Perhaps modify this to potted plant soil. -leaves Not a good keyword, will probably result in many ads that do not hit target audience. -red -green People who type these colors into a search engine are unlikely to be shopping for plants. Probably not cost effective. -fertilizer This search term will include people who are researching fertilizers for their gardens or farms. It will also include people who are concerned about pesticides etc. I do not think that this would be cost effective either. If you do sell fertilizer, perhaps modify this into something like plant fertilizer, rose fertilizer, etc. -flowers Good one even though there are already quite a few people using this. Put an eye catching offer or something special to make your ad stand out above the rest. Maybe a promotion for this keyword would be a good idea. -plants I dont really see most people using this term to be in your target audience. People searching for this term would include people who are researching environment issues, gardening, botany etc. You could use it to see how it goes, but it probably would not be cost effective. -rose plants -rose plant I notice that nobody else is looking for these. I would try to see how it goes with these search terms, perhaps you are on to something. Valentine Flowers for Valentines day I wouldnt go with the first one, it is a bit too broad, for the second one, your flowers term already has it covered. -potted plants Good one if you sell potted plants. My recommended list: fresh cut flowers (negative keywords wholesale bulk supplier wholesaler) fresh flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk flowers (this one is likely to cost you much more, but it might be worth it. People searching for types of flowers would still return results. You can get closer to your target audience by using such adwords as: buy flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) gift flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) gifts flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) special flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) purchase flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) birthday flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) anniversary flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) wedding flowers (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) Some additional recommended adwords: potted plants (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) rose plants (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) rose plant (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) cut roses (negative keywords wholesale supplier wholesalers suppliers bulk) gift shop special gifts specialty bouquets birthday gifts anniversary gifts wedding gifts get well gifts (the above three might or might not work perhaps you could try them to see what happens. It could be that people shopping for gifts will buy flowers when seeing your ad, before actually looking for flowers in a separate search) get well soon (negative keywords cards flash ecards greeting card poems) personalized flowers dozen roses quality roses birthday bouquets anniversary bouquets wedding bouquets florist (using negative keywords such as: -cost supplies international software wholesale supply ftd) If florist turns out not to be cost effective you can use florist flowers, florist US, florist new york, florist wedding, florist birthday etc.) I hope this is the type of research you were looking for. If you need any clarifications regarding this answer, please let me know and I will do my best to further assist you. tisme-ga Search Strategy: Used Google search engine and the Google Keyword Suggestion Tool to find negative keywords and check keyword relevancy.
