How do I open emails with doc attachments?

• I use Outlook to email things, my friend has AOL.  When I send him a word doc attachment, he says he can't open it.  He is very new to AOL and to using a computer.  When opening an email with a attachment what do you need to do? Thanks, Doreen

  This probably has nothing to do with AOL or Outlook. It has to do with having a program that recognizes Word's DOC format. I suspect he doesn't have one. So he has a few options. 1) He can purchase either Works or Office which includes Word. 2) He can get the free Word Viewer at Microsoft.com. 3) You can save the documents in Plain text format and either paste into your e-mail or attach 4) You can find out what he uses for word processing and save your Word doc in that format (if compatible) and send it that way.
