  • hi, i had just bought a new computer from a place called pronet sales...my cpu is 3100+.  when you boot up the computer it says 3100 but then when you go into system information it says this....mobile AMD Athlon(tm)XP-M...1900+ ..1.60GHz.......512 MB of RAM.  ..my question is...why doesnt it say its a 3100+ and only 1.60.  is there a way of fixing this and if so how?  the name of motherboard is L7VMM3..and made by ECS company....did i get ripped off with this computer ?  thank you. debbie

  • Answer:

Hi Debbie, Impossible to know without having a close look inside the machine. I would suggest to get a second opinion. Have it checked by a technician. It might be only a mismatch on the BIOS readings, or you might be right. There has been a lot of counterfeit memories and CPUs since a while ago. Also there has been cases where the OS requires a patch to read the CPU version properly (but hadn't heard about more cases in a while). If you want to go by yourself, I may suggest to go to AMD website (http://www.amd.com/gb-uk/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/Processor_Recognition_Rev05_ENG.pdf) and www.tomshardware.com Ricardo
