Monitor And Motherboard?

Motherboard & Monitor

  • ------------------------- Followup To Question - I have a A Open AP53 Motherboard that had Windows 95 on it.  I wanted to add a new hard drive so i got a 200 gb hard drive and hooked it up.  Once i was done i tried to turn the computer on and the power generator turned on, the hard drive you could tell was getting power, cd drive opened up, but the monitor didnt work.  I took the video card and the hard drives into another computer and that worked fine.  I know the monitor works fine because it worked with my other computer.  Is ther anywhere on the motherboard that could be messed up or do you think the motherboard is fried?  Also, say i messed up the Ramm would that have anything to do with this?  Im just trying to figure out why its not communicating with the monitor if the video card works.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Answer - Hi Brent: Your computer is not compatible with a 200 GB hard drive.  You would need an ATA 133 hard drive controller, and be running Windows XP operating system.  Remove the new hard drive and test the system for proper boot up to Windows 95.  Remove the AC cord from the power supply at the back of the computer before working inside the case.  An 80 GB hard drive, ATA 100, would probably be compatible with your system. Beejay Beejay, I realize that maybe the 200 gb hard drive wouldnt work for it so i didnt infact unplug it and didnt even hook anything to it so the cpu would boot up normal like it usually would but it never did.  Right now im not trying to fool with the 200gb hard drive, im just trying to boot it up with the 800mb hard drive that it has in there now.  Do you think the Ramm or the motherboard would be out of date?  I just dont see how if i hooked everything up like it was before i put the 200 gb hard drive in there then why is it not communicating with the monitor?

  • Answer:

Hi Brent: You may have loosened a ribbon or power cable when you installed the new hard drive.  Check that all connections are on tight to the drives.  If you did not remove the AC cord from the power supply before working inside the case, you may have damaged the motherboard.  The motherboard is 'out of date' to be compatible with the 200 GB drive.
