@X!? XP Home
-
All of a sudden something changed. Any time I use the keyboard, in or out of programs, it does not matter when this happens: after 3 seconds of no keyboard input there is a dingeling sound, a note starting high and going down is the best way to describe it. It is a window type sound. It drives me nuts! I am using XP Home, Dell Inspiron 8500. Dell has no idea except reinstall XP (not going to happen, I rather go back to Win2000 but hope I don't have to do that). Deleting keyboard driver and let XP reinstall it, no good. Is there a way to force xp to import a new driver rather then reusing the existing one? Dell says the driver is part of xp. It does not do it in DOS, so not a hardware problem. Help!? regards, Axel

Answer:
Hi Axel... Per your instructions on question # 307393: "I think I figured it out, the other question is # 307396, a higher # that must be the good credit card, please place your answer there!" ...I will post my the answer here: ----------------------------------------------------------- I would suggest going to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds & Multimedia, and reviewing the sounds associated with the events there. See if you can locate the sound you are referring to, and see what event it is associated with. As I suspected, this led you to an awareness of which program was utilizing the sound, for which event. You noted: "...it is the 'alps pointing device, the sound is 'easy launcher' and 'typing with tap enabled'". ...and... "I uninstalled the driver for my touchpad, restarted computer and the problem is solved." In case you decide you'd prefer to have the functionality of the Alps Mouse Utility, there is a .pdf file which contains a user's guide for this program, starting on page 25 of the file. Also, there is a page describing the 'Sound Feedback' of the utility, and how to modify the sound settings, on page 37 of the .pdf file, which can be found on the ASUS Notebook Italian site (the file is in English), here: http://notebook.asus.it/documenti/manuali/L7000%20Sw.pdf Additional information can be gleaned from an exploration of the links resulting from the Google searches, outlined below.
