What happened at the end of 'Lost' series?

What happened in the end?

  • This question refers to a series I used to watch, and unfortunately couldn't see the last episodes. It is a drama series and I am almost sure it is based on a book (if so, I would like to know which book, but that's not my main question). The series happens in San Francisco (the name of the series has also San Francisco in its name, something like San Francisco's Stories). The main character is a young woman named Mary-Anne (or perhaps Marianne or less likely something like Mary-Beth), who arrives from somewhere in the Midwest to the 70s in SF. She meets all kinds of interesting people, each of which has a small subplot. It is a very gay-friendly series. I have seen the whole first season, in which each of her neighbors in the house in SF is involved in the plot, and one of them is found to be a pedophile. My questions are on the end of the second season, which I saw only the beginning of. I must say that while writing these subplots and plots I am interested in, I realised that the show seems very trashy. It isn't. It is wonderful both in script and acting. In the second series: A. Mary-Anne and her gay friend get on a cruise. They meet this guy, fall in love with him. He suffers from amnesia and she convinces him to get back to SF and try to revive his memory (so what happens at the end? why did he lost his memory? what does he try to forget?) B. A friend of Mary-Anne is in personal crisis, and she experimentalizes with drugs, cults, etc. What happens to her? C. Another friend, of friend B, is a model. Everyone thinks she's black, but she's actually white and takes medicines that would make her look Black D. Another sub-charcter belongs to the rich elite. Her husband ignores her and experimentalizes in dark-rooms. She is raped by the grocery-delivery guy, who happens to be Asian and is in a problem - she doesn't tell anyone she was raped at her own house and doesn't know what to do. What happened to her and her baby? These are only few stories in this series. Do you know what happened at the end of this series? How these and other plots were solved? I know it sounds stupid, especially since I can't remember the actual name of the series, but this has been bugging me for about a year now, since I stopped watching TV.

  • Answer:

Good Morning, Floyd_pepper! I can understand your burning desire to know how this "all turned out"...my wife and I saw these series in installments with a few gay friends, and she was on pins and needles for a week in between. The shows you're referring to are the "Tales of the City" miniseries, broadcast respectively on PBS in 1993, and Showtime in 1999 and 2001. They were based on the columns/novels by Armistead Maupin. So...I'll address your immediate question first, and then "back-fill" a little. For a complete synopsis of the second series, click this link on author Armistead Maupin's site: http://www.literarybent.com/totc_03_tvroom_03_more.html# Scroll down until you see the "synopsis" link. You may wish to spend some time browsing the "Tales of the City" section of the site in its entirety, as contains a large and varied selection of "Talesiana": http://www.literarybent.com/totc_01.html If you were previously unaware of its existence, you may be especially interested in the material on the third series, "Further Tales of the City": http://www.literarybent.com/totc_03_tvroom_02_further.html The Internet Movie Database (IMDB) lists cast and crew credits for all three series on the following links: Tales of the city http://us.imdb.com/Title?0106148 More Tales of the City http://us.imdb.com/Title?0120574 Further Tales of the City http://us.imdb.com/Title?0245625 And, now that you've come this far, you'll probably want to revisit 28 Barbary by renting the series. The full set is now available for rental at Blockbuster (and presumably other locations): http://www.blockbuster.com/bb/movie/details/0,7286,VID-V+++122989,00.html Search Strategy Knowing the title, of course, helps immensely...:) My first step was to look on IMDB. Then to Google, using the terms "Tales of the City" synopsis episode And the rest, as they say, is history. Enjoy! -Chromedome
