How long do triathalons usually last?

Marathons, triathalons at night

  • Is there any marathons, half marathons, or triathalons in the USA that have start times in the evening or night (between 4 pm and midnight)? If so, I would like links to their websites and their starting times

Hello, walail-ga, Boy, this was a tough one! There are so many links to marathon races around the United States, but unless you spend hours searching through each link, it is difficult to find a start time. UtraRunning Magazine has a calender of some of the marathons in the US, Canada and around the world. As I clicked on each region, I found only one relay that started at 7pm. It is the “Somerville Roadrunners 24-Hour Around the Lake Relay, Marathon, Ultra” on August 2nd. To get to the link, go to http://www.ultrarunning.com/ , click on the left-hand regional link for New England, and then the Sommerville Roadrunners Race web page link at the bottom of the race description. Or, you may link seperately to the page at http://www.srr.org/ . Click on the left-link for the “24-hour race”, and it will give you the details. The Dusk till Dawn Trail Challenge in Rockford, Michigan, which was already run on June 8, 2002, is a 12-hour all-night trail run from 7pm-7am. Race info and contact information about next year is available at http://www.swimjimswim.org/d2d/index.shtml. The Bridle Trails Twilight 50K, sponsored by the Cascade Running Club, will be held at the Bridle Trails State Park in Bellvue, WA on 1/11/2003. The race has a 4pm start time. You can find out more at http://pws.prserv.net/CascadeRunningClub/bt50k.htm. A race name that caught my eye on ultrarunner.net was the Bethel Hill Midnight Boogie in North Carolina. Information about the race will be posted in the next few months at http://www.mangumtc.org/. You can access the home page of ultrarunner at http://www.ultrarunner.net/ and click on states of interest to get names and links to races. Some have start times, some don’t, but the list does contain many more races than those listed on the ultrarunning.com site. A short (5k) but annual evening run is the Firecracker 5k beginning at 7pm in Memphis, Tennessee to benefit the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital. Information can be found on their website at http://www2.stjude.org/community_events/national_event/runs-detail.cfm or at their official site at http://www.firecracker5k.com/ Another site that lists all the ultramarathons in the US is at ultramarathonworld.com. It is an extensive list, and I did not have time to scroll through all the race times, but if you do this at your leisure, you may find a nightime race. http://www.ultramarathonworld.com/uw_races.htm . Trail Runner Magazine, at http://www.trailrunnermag.com/ has the most detailed list of races I have found in the United States.Click on the “events” tab to take you to a regional list of races by date..... http://www.trailrunnermag.com/events/events.html It would take me hours to click through each region of the US, and the dates, to find out if any are nighttime races. However, it is sometimes possible to tell by the name, as I did with the Bridle Trails Twilight race. If, and when, you have the time, you should be able to scroll through the lists. Or, better yet, why not contact Trail Runner Magazine and see if they would be kind enough to give you a more extensive list than I have. They probably have the information on the tip of their tongue.Their contact info is: Trail Runner Big Stone Publishing 1101 Village Rd. UL-D4 Carbondale, CO 81623 (970) 704-1442 PH (970) 963-4965 FX You might call and see if they have an e-mail address, or if they can e-mail you with some information. Though the list is not extensive, there are a few links here to start you off. As I said, it will take a fair amount of time to search through all the sites. However, the contact info on any of the above websites may be all you need to ask for some more night races.
