  • Answer:

Dear tovanderon, Two very important film schools in Germany are located in Berlin and in nearby Potsdam: Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen "Konrad Wolf" Potsdam-Babelsberg <http://www.hff-potsdam.de/_deutsch/oeffentlichkeit/home/index.php> This school is located in Potsdam, and uses the legendary Babelsberg studios as their home. It is the largest film school in Germany. It is a state school, students pay only about EUR 250 a semester. Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie Berlin <http://www.dffb.de/> It is one of the most selective film schools, very difficult to get into and allegedly very competetive. However, a very good one - and several known directors have studied there. It is a state-school, and all students study in fact on a grant. Another school that yielded many famous graduates is the film academy in Munich: The Munich Academy for Television and Film <http://www.hff-muenchen.de> If you're more interested in television work, you might want to study in Cologne, where many television studios are located. The Cologne Film School is rather young, and doesn't have the traditions of the two schools abovementioned, but is a good solution: The International Film School Cologne (ifs) <http://www.filmschule.de> Because the list the PinkFreud provided contains two more names, let me refer to them, although I am not considering them to be top-tier (please note, that there isn't any official or non-official ranking of film-schools in Germany, similarly to the US News and World Report ranking of US schools). The School of Audio Engineering (SAE) <http://www.sae.edu/de/> - as far as I know, this school offers education that is more oriented towards digital media and and media technology. The degree is not a German degree (although of course recognised by the German authorities). Technische Fachhochschule <http://www.kameraschule.de/d-index.php> - it is less famous and focuses on technical training (photographers, etc.), not on directing, screen-writing, etc. I hope this answers your question. Please contact me if you need any clarification on this answer before you rate it.
