tissue paper flowers
-
I need instructions on how to make "tissue" paper flowers for a mexican-themed/fiesta party in february. If I could also find instructions for making a pinata (not with balloons!) that would be great too. The instructions and supplies should be fairly simple as these will be created by students. Thanks in advance for your help--your service has always been first class!

Source: The Kids Domain http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/flower2.html ======================================== ?To make tissue paper flowers simply take a pack of tissue paper and cut some squares out of 6 or 8 pieces of tissue paper (depending on how full you want your flower to be). Then fold into an accordion type fold. Pinch at center with some wire - can be a pipe cleaner or florist's wire - crimp center with wire. Then fold out - fluff up - the tissue paper that's surrounding the wire. You can have your wire hang down for a stem and cover it with green masking tape if you want to get extra fancy. To give some of the flowers a different look, you can zigzag cut the edges of the tissue before folding it out.? Start with the top tissue being careful not to tear it. After you have done the top layer, go on to the second layer, then the third and the fourth. Straighten out the flower to your liking. 6. You may use a marker to highlight and add more color to your flower. 7. The pipe cleaner may be shaped into a leaf on one side. 8. Spray a light mist of perfume on the flower. However, I have been able to locate a few instructions on how to make ?balloon-less? pinatas. :) Here is one using milk cartons: -Milk Carton Pinata- 1. Rinse and dry a two-litre waxed cardboard drink carton. Tape the top shut. 2. Carefully cut along three sides of the base, creating a bottom-opening flap. 3. Measure the circumference of the carton and cut several lengths of crepe paper to fit around the carton. 4. Fold each strip of crepe paper in half. To make the fringe, cut across the grain, making the cuts about 1/4-inch wide and one-inch deep (do not cut right through the fold). 5. Working from the bottom of the carton toward the top, glue the base of each paper strip to the carton with the tips of the fringe pointing down. Overlap each row until the whole carton is covered. Change colors according to your design. 6. Fill the pinata from the bottom, then tape the flap lightly closed. Thread a string through the top. Fill a paper bag about half way with goodies (like candies and small toys). 2. Roll the top of the bag down, staple the folded top shut, and punch two holes along the top. 3. Cut strips of tissue paper and cut fringes in them. 4. Glue the fringes of tissue paper to the bag (glue along the top of the fringes). Cover the bag with tissue paper. 5. Decorate with paper cut-outs, markers, paint, and/or googly eyes. 6. Tie a long string through the holes. You will eventually hang the pinata up using this string. 7. Glue long crepe paper streamers from the bottom of the pinata. You now have a scary monster pinata. Hang it up and break it open with a soft bat (like a Nerf bat or a tightly-rolled-up and taped newspaper).
