What's the best site for free clip art?

Where can I buy Cliptomaniacs clip art?

  • Where can I buy clip art designed by the group known as Cliptomaniacs? Here is some background information: There used to be a site at http://www.doubleexposure.com that was selling several collections of clip art. I loved their stuff and bought one of their sets, but since then I've lost it in a hard drive crash. I tried to contact them, but it seems they've gone out of business. The clip art was really high quality, so I assume they must have sold their work to one of the major clip art collections. I'm hoping somebody knows which one of these has Cliptomaniacs clip art. If you want to see examples of their work, go to the Internet Archive and search for http://doubleexposure.com. Or, you can just go here: http://web.archive.org/web/19970719063209/www.doubleexposure.com/index.html The Internet Archive also has contact information: CLIPTOART 401 King Edward Avenue, Suite 200 Ottawa, Ontario K1N9C9 Canada TEL: (613) 232-3567 FAX: (613) 232-2055 I tried calling the number, but I got a recorded message from what appears to be a law firm. Thanks for any answers, Trevor P.S. This has nothing to do with the Australian TV show called "Cliptomaniacs".

  • Answer:

Good news Trevor! I was unable to locate CliptoArt who were, at one point, located in Ottawa, Canada according to the Appleworks Organizations page (scroll down to "Other Resources"): http://www.apple.com/appleworks/users.html I did, however, locate Cliptomaniacs artwork! I began my search by searching for Cliptomaniacs in Google and found that they also once owned the domain name www.cliptoart.com and were based out of Ottawa, Canada (which matched up with what you found). Next I went to the Internet Archive (www.archive.org) and, while browsing the www.cliptoart.com site, I noticed that the last page indexed sent you to Art Today. I'm an Art Today member, and I'm familiar with the fact that it is a large clipart site so I went searching. Once on the Art Today site (www.arttoday.com), I chose a few unusual clipart images to search for from the ones located in the Internet Archive for Cliptomaniacs (http://web.archive.org/web/19990219220535/http://www.doubleexposure.com/main.html) such as the cars, avocados, and olives. The results confirmed that what appears to be Cliptomaniacs clipart is now available through Art Today. Once I located one of their images, the vendor name is listed as "GraphicCorp 3 - CLIPTO/FILES" and I was able to bring up all of the artwork listed under that vendor name. It definitely matches the clipart from Cliptomaniacs. The publisher is listed as Hemera Technologies, so possibly they purchased the clipart from Double Exposure, although I can find nothing to confirm that theory. Hemera is headquartered in Ottawa, Ca as well - yet more evidence! Hemera Technologies sells their clipart in huge collections so that might be an option for you. I would recommend contacting them to see if they can shed further light on which collection might contain the clipart from Double Exposure. http://www.hemera.com The other option would be to sign up as a member of Art Today. They offer memberships as small as one week for $7.95. Once you gain membership access, here is the direct link to the artwork from Double Exposure: http://members.arttoday.com/en/search/split?a=c&g=9581&show=mem Here are some examples, so that you can confirm for yourself from the free searches at Art Today (you can search for free...just not download): 1) Go to this page on the Internet Archive and look at the Grandmother image: http://web.archive.org/web/19980625074310/www.doubleexposure.com/peop-01.html 2) Go to www.arttoday.com and search the clipart category for "grandmother" 3) Skip ahead to page 5 (at least it was on page 5 for me) and find the matching image. You can do the same with "olives" Search www.arttoday.com for "olives" and image #3 will match the olives on this page: http://web.archive.org/web/19980625075057/www.doubleexposure.com/food-05.html Pinkish purple popsicle near the end of page 1 or top of page 2 in search results for "popsicle" will match the one on this page: http://web.archive.org/web/19980625075552/www.doubleexposure.com/food-03.html I hope this is the clipart you are looking for. Thank you for a fun search. Regards, inquisitive-ga
