Where can I find an Interactive Advertisement on the internet?

Researcher employment advertisement...

  • Hello, I am trying to write an advertisement for business reasons. I am therefore looking for advice. I tired to post an ad (for hiring a online researcher) in different groups on internet like this: "I am looking to meet focused intelligent online researchers who have expertise in using search engines for information for casual and part-time paid employment. If you meet the criteria and want to find out more please contact us at @ http://www.techages.com/contact.htm we will then provide you with more details. If you are not interested but feel you could point me in the right direction your advice would be appreciated. Thank you." My question is do you think the ad is appropriate as it has not been very successful? You advice would be much appreciated? Kind Regards, Pietch-ga UK

  • Answer:

You asked if your ad was appropriate, since it hasn't been very successful. But your question pretty much answers itself: if an ad is not successful, it's not appropriate. You need to find some other approach to generate the leads you are looking for. You did not say where you had posted the ad, and that certainly worth some attention on your part. If you are confident that the ads were posted at the right venues, then this is probably not a further concern. However, if you are not sure whether or not they were posted at the best sites, you may want to do some further research, or even post a separate question here at Google Answers to help identify the best sites for your needs. As for the language of the ad itself, it can be considerably improved: "I am looking to meet focused intelligent online researchers who have expertise in using search engines for information for casual and part-time paid employment. If you meet the criteria and want to find out more please contact us at @ http://www.techages.com/contact.htm we will then provide you with more details. <<I am looking to meet ...>> I don't think you're looking to *meet* anyone. As worded, this sounds like a vaguely salacious personal ad. You want to *hire* someone, so just come out and say so. <<...researchers who have expertise in using search engines for information >> Huh? This comes close to not saying anything, really. Anyone using a search engine is using it "for information" of one sort or another. This description is far too vague in terms of letting people know what, exactly, you are looking for. <<...for casual and part-time paid employment>> Again, "casual" sounds more like a personal ad than a job ad. And "part-time paid employment", though descriptive, begs for a bit more information. Employment to do *what*? What sort of hours? What sort of salary? <<If you meet the criteria...>> What criteria...? <<contact us at @ http://www.techages.com/contact.htm>> Good idea, but the web site itself only adds to the confusion, I'm afraid. More on this a bit later. <<If you are not interested but feel you could point me in the right direction your advice would be appreciated..>> This just sounds like you are not sure what you want, who you're after, or how to go about getting it -- it doesn't inspire confidence. I can't offer you alternative wording for the ad, since I don't really know what sort of workers you are looking for. However, here's a try at an ad for a make-believe job -- perhaps you can use this as a model for an ad of your own, by changing some of the language wherever appropriate: ========== TECHAGES.COM, a dynamic site design and software programming firm, is looking to hire 3-5 part-time experienced researchers for remote (work at home) research work. Candidates should have expertise in the following areas: --a sophisticated understanding of internet searching, especially use of general and specialty search engines to construct expertly-crafted searches for locating hard-to-find materials on the general web as well as the invisible web. --familiarity with -- and access to -- private sector data sources, such as Lexis-Nexis, Factiva, Ebsco and Proquest. --demonstrated expertise in preparing concise, well-written research reports, combining text, search results and graphics. Starting salary is $25/hour; salary increases will be considered after the first 100 hours of assignments are completed. Visit http://www.techages.com/contact.htm for additional information. ========== An ad along those lines would, I suspect, generate more response than your initial effort. Having said that, though, it could well be that prospective candidates visiting your site will still be confused about the nature of your company and the type of work you have in mind. For instance, your site describes its software business this way: ----- Software Development Customers provide us with basic specifications and we perform thorough research on the subject to come up with an acceptable solution. ----- I'm afraid this description also suffers from an inherent vagueness that can damage the credibility of the company, as far as a first time visitor to your site is concerned. You should make sure that as prospective job candidates visit Techages.com for the first time, that they are receiving clear-cut contact information, and any additional information that you can provide about the job(s) that you are offering. I hope this feedback is helpful to you. However, before rating this answer, please let me know if there is anything else that you need. Just post a Request for Clarification, and I'll be happy to assist you further. All the best in your ventures. pafalafa-ga
