Why is the timing belt loose on my 98 honda civic?

After how many miles should you change the timing belt for a 98 Honda civic LX Sedan?

  • Answer:

Read your owner's manual. Severe engine damage will occur if the belt breaks. Don't have an owner's manual, change it at 80,000 miles. Also replace the water pump at the same time as the belt. Answer Most new belts are good for about 90,000 miles. Older Civics should be changed out at 60,000 miles with the new and improved belts now being produced. Make sure to replace the water pump at the same time as well. Answer It will vary obviously. I changed mine at 125,000 miles
