Because many AP jobs are considered entry-level administrative or office-management positions, there is a lot of competition for these positions--so preparing an effective resume is critical to setting yourself above the competition. Difficulty: Easy Things You'll Need Microsoft Office Word Instructions Use Microsoft Office Word to prepare the resume. Use Word's Wizard to create a new resume using a pre-defined template. Select a template that is simple and workmanlike--avoid flowery and artistic templates, as these are not consistent with the accounts payable (AP) business focus. Enter your contact information at the top of the page. Do not include a date of birth, racial background, marital status or statement of disability. Do not include your Social Security Number. Simply provide a name, mailing address, telephone number and email address. If possible, avoid using "free" email accounts, as these can sometimes convey a lack of professionalism. Emphasize your employment history--showcase your history and skills that would make you an effective candidate for an accounts payable job. Include job duties like auditing, security, cashiering and filing. The "work experience" part of the resume is the most important section for seeking an AP position.
