Difficulty: Easy Things You'll Need 1/4 inch guitar cable Instructions Insert one end of the 1/4 inch guitar cable into the input jack on your guitar. The jack will be located on the front or side of the body of the guitar. Plug the other end of the 1/4 cable into the input jack on the tuner, which is located on the side of the tuner, either right or left, depending on the year and make of the model. Turn on the tuner by pressing the power button. Turn the volume knob of your guitar, located on the front of the body of the guitar, all the way to full. Pluck the low E string and watch the display window to make sure the note registers on the tuner. Tune the E string higher if the needle in the display window is to the left of the middle line, and tune the E string lower if the needle is to the right of the middle line. When the needle lines up with the middle line, that string is in tune.
