How to find a sponsor as an international student?

As a foreign student, how can I find a sponsor or scholarship for college in the US?

  • Answer:

My advice would be to call a US college that you are interested in attending and talk to a admissions advisor or counselor and they might have a list of opportunities. I think families or people have to sign up to be open for those kinds of things just like you would have to be. I am sure that some form of contact would have to be made to make arrangements.

According to http://www.foreignborn.com/study_in_us/8-paying4school.htm, some schools have special programs for foreign students, such as Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. http://www.iefa.org/ has information for international students. http://www.rotary.org/foundation/educational/amb_scho/index.html has more information -- Rotary is a volunteer service organization, so it will help to have that sort of experience. http://www.scholarshipexperts.com/pricing/pricing3.jsp#overview is a paid service which will find scholarships you are eligible for. You may also find scholarships available in your home country for international education, particularly if you promise to return home and serve your country with the education.
