What you have is swollen clogged eustachian tubes. Yes kids get 'tubes in the ear' when they have this form all their millions of colds. When we get allergies it often happens to adults too. You can also try performing the Valsalva maneuver to help pressurize your middle ear. You hold your nose shut, take a deep breath, close your mouth and try to blow--this directs the air into your Eustachian tubes. This often helps to clear the fluid from your middle ears faster.

I have this problem now and it is from a sinus infection which is probably from allergies. I just read a site from an ENT http://www.earallergy.com/ who says that inner ear fluid is caused by an allergic response in the inner ear. I have noticed that when I take Allegra - D 12 hour twice daily, my ears clear up. I also read that taking a diuretic can remove the fluid. I tried taking Claritin D OTC and it did not help me as did the Allegra D (I am taking the generic version). I also bought a waterpic Sinusense to help with the chronic sinusitis and have found that to be very helpful. I also have tried the Earadicator website, which suggests adding 4-way nasal decongestant spray to the saline rinse mixture. I have found that this helped a lot too. This site was to relieve pressure in the ears and it works, but, eventhough my ears did "pop", I still had the imbalance problems. I do believe it is a good suggestion.
