Whenever I see someone get injured (on TV or otherwise) I get a sharp pain in my chest that lasts for about a second, are these sympathy pains? What exactly are they and what causes them?

Answer:
It sounds like one of the muscles in your chest might tend to spasm briefly when it is contracted suddenly. Watching anything that affects our emotions does cause a physiological response which includes the tensing and/or relaxing of certain muscles. I would advise checking with a doctor just to make sure it isn't anything serious.
