Is reading with a red light bad for your eyes?

What are the side effect of flourescent light on the eyes in people using flourescent light for several hours each day for reading as well as its effect on general health? what are the ideal ;lflourescent light and proper distance for reading? thank

  • Answer:

Flourescent lights flicker on and off at a speed fast enough for the humans eyes to not notice. However, some brains will still sense 'light-flicker' and cause problems like headaches and eye irritation. I don't believe anyone has been seriously injured by flourescents, but if you must use them, try to find one that operates at 20,000 Hz or higher. I have no idea what the recommended distance would be.

i worked in a bulk food store and at least once a day we had to turn the items. colours of things would be different underneath. was it oxygen or flourescent lights? don't know. personally, they give me a headache and i have one tube above my desk removed. not only that but they are not flattering, at all. check the chicken soup mix next time you are in a store like that.
