Why will the volume on my Sony TV not increase?

I have a sony trinitron console tv that was manufactured in 1992. When the cable is connected to the antenna (in) port on the back of the tv the volume is distorted. If connected to a VCR and then to the tv thru a/v cables the sound is OK. Answers?

first, I am surprised that a TV built in 92 will still function at all. typically you can only get a dozen years out of them so this one could be on its last resistor (so to speak). The 1992 Sony Trinitron Antenna port was built for a standard external antenna feed. I think it was a flat 75 watt flat 2 strand wire cable. If you try and adapt a coax onto the port, you might get all kinds of weird things happening. Using the VCR will act as a coax input filter with an output that the TV will like.

2 things one is it one the correct channel for then cable and two can you try and fine tune the t.v it could be that you might need to move the cable signal up or down the tunning band of the tv. eg: if the cable signal is near a terestrial channel then that could be why it's distorted...
