My husband says men prefer static websites instead of one with alot of flash or animation. His reason is men can't multitask as well as women. Do you agree?

Answer:
I guess your husband is not on any nude girl or porno websites. You should be happy about that.

I disagree with the reason, but he's right. Flashy websites are distracting. Elegant, clean designs are more effective for both the owner and the visitors. Hence Google's success with their minimalist design.

I agree with Elitheeli here, the websites are easier to navigate & quicker to load. He is right that men's brains are generally wired to be more focused on a single task at a time. But I do not think that men in particular prefer less flashy sites, where has that stat come from? I reckon maybe both sexes could have that preference.

You may have hit upone a man-thing that's is true because I definitely hate sites with lots of streaming and animation. It is indeed, very distracting to me which is why I wish all ISPs would restrict the numbers of streaming ads that they allow or let users have a choice of either animated of static Internet use; if it could be done at all.

I agree that men don't generally multitask as well as women do. However, I do not agree that this is why we would prefer simple straightforward web sites over those with lots of fancy Flash and animation and such. Very simply, I want information, and I want to obtain it quickly, easily, and efficiently. 99.9999% of the time, where such features as Flash are used, they have the opposite effect. They make it more difficult and more confusing and slower and less efficent to obtain less information. They make a site that looks fancy, but which is much less useful. I prefer useful over fancy any day. It is with great chagrin that I note that Answerbag is moving in the direction toward being fancy, at the expense of usefullness. They haven't started using Flash yet, but the site is becoming increasingly infested with very bad uses of JavaShi^H^Hcript that as often as not fail to work as intended; and even when it does work, it slows the site down greatly.

That's your husband's preference, not mine. I am a Flash web designer though. (I am male.)
