How to get rid of the silverfish in a house?

I have silverfish in my house. Luckily I don't have any other bugs, but I am looking for a technique to get rid of them that won't affect my cat. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Answer:

I know that silverfish thrive on damp conditions and that's why they're often found in kitchens and bathrooms, especially in older houses. If you could get rid of the damp conditions, the silverfish would move. Perhaps a humidifyer, but it's difficult to remove damp from a bathroom unless you stop using it which isn't very practical. On a positive note, these little insects are not dirty or harmful, don't spread diseases and are very common, I had them in a house I once lived in, but I know it's not nice when you see them in the bath or in a cupboard. You can buy stuff - insecticides, which won't affect the cat as long as you keep her/him away from the area you are treating for a day or two.
