I have a 1990 Mitsubishi TV. it was working fine until a few days ago. There is no audio or video except when I play DVD, then I would get the audio but no video. When I have tried the same with VCR, I would get neither sound nor picture. Please advise

It sounds like your amp is defective, given the age of your TV you should change it,with many TV stations changing to digital, your set is becoming obsolete. Treat yourself to a new digital TV to save yourself a lot of future expense.
