Answer:
Blood pressure is the force of blood in your arteries as the heart beats and relaxes. The top number is called the systolic number, which measures your heartbeats. The bottom number is called the diastolic pressure, which measures how much the heart rests in between beats. A BP of 109/52 with pulse of 55 is low, but quite normal for a young athletic guy like yourself. The old rule of thumb of 100 + your age over 80 is still considered 'normal', but a reading below 120/80 is now considered 'optimal'. (Each increase of 20/10 doubles a person's risk of cardiovascular disease.) Blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day and from one day to the next. If you feel faint or experience headrushes, make sure you are drinking enough water (dehydration lowers BP) and avoiding caffeine (raises BP) to stabilize your BP. Also make sure you are eating regularly spaced meals. If you still experience problems, report them to a doctor and have your blood sugar checked as well.

Blood pressure is "a measurement of the force applied against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood through the body. The pressure is determined by the force and amount of blood pumped and the size and flexibility of the arteries." A reading consists of two numbers, for example: 112/77, which is read as "112 over 77." The first number, systolic blood pressure, measures the maximum pressure exerted as the heart contracts, while the lower number indicates diastolic pressure, a measurement taken between beats, when the heart is at rest. According to high blood pressure guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA), numbers under 140/90 and over 90/60 are generally considered normal in adults. http://ask.yahoo.com/20000901.html

I would have thought that blood pressure reading was rather on the low side, have you had medical advice.

109 is your systolic pressure. 52 is your diastolic pressure. In general, you BP should be about 100 plus your age (up to 140ish) over anywhere from 60-90. Again, this is in general. There are many healthy people that fall outside of these ranges due to their physique.

From what I have been told, your blood pressure is way to high. You should consult your Doctor asap.
