I want to relocate my iTunes from one hard drive to another. Whats the best way to go about doing that, taking my music files and everything along with it? Will cut/paste 'ing the whole file work?

Answer:
Well, I am going to assume you want your library as well as the program. Here's the best bet: 1. Go to the iTunes website, download the iTunes installer if you do not have one handy. 2. Go get yourself a blank DVD (If you have a DVD burner, of course), or an assload of CD's. 3. Burn yourself the installer, and put as much of your music you can on there. 4. Once everything is on CD/DVD, then copy it all into one big folder. 5. Install iTunes with the installer. 6. Find that folder where you put all your music, go file -> add folder to library You should be good, then. Or just use an external hard drive and do the same process w/o the whole burning.

I put mine on a Seagate external hard drive. Simple to both download and retrieve.

The assumption is that you want to "backup" your music library to another hard drive? If this is the case, the easiest way to do it is by going into Windows "My Computer" opening up your "C" drive and then go the sub directory, "My Music", highlight the sub-folder, I-Tunes and then using your mouse, hit the right side your mouse, another menu will pop up, select "SEND TO" which will then display all the drives connected to your computer. If your separate hard drive is connected to your computer, it will show it ---- select send to it and bingo it will copy your files to the separate hard drive. This is the simpler way of doing it vs cut n paste.

It's easy. Copy your itunes folder to your other hard drive. Delete the original itunes folder. Make an alias of the relocated folder and drop it back in the original music folder (be sure to remove the word "alias" from the filename). Done

I store all my songs on a portable USB drive, so I can easily move it from one computer to another. We have had to move the music files before, and you just need to make sure you copy the actual song files and not just the iTunes library.

Does anyone know the answer? I'm thinking I need to uninstall totally, and reinstall on D. The problem is, I consolidated my music to an iTunes folder and I'm scared I'll lose all of my music that I have on the computer... ACK!
