Professional References for Interviewing?

When interviewing a potential babysitter, what questions do you ask (aside from the obvious "do you know CPR/first aid, have a car, have a phone, have references, etc.")?

  • Answer:

How many children have you babysat at a time? How mand different babysitting jobs have you had? How long have you been babysitting? Have you ever been fired for a babysitting job? Do you have any brothers and sisters, or young nieces and nephews? I would ask them situational questions.. for example, "If you were playing with little ____ and all of a sudden the phone rang. You went to go answer it, and when you came back to to where you were playing little _____ was playing with things under the sink and some of the substances had the lids off, what would you do?" Or something to that effect. What do you feel is your best way to discipline a naughty child? Do you have any children of your own? These are just questions I came up with off the top of my head, as I don't actually have children and have never needed a babysitter for that reason, but I would ask these, and I have been asked some of these types of questions.
