Why is it bad to drink soda when you have braces I mean how does soda loosen your braces or effect their durability any?

the acid does something to the metal and it can leave like rusty stains on your teeth it happened to my cousin! i avoided all sodas and it was well worth it your have fab clean straight teeth in no time xxxxx

I don't know, but I had braces for three years and I didn't eat any different than I did before I got them, and it didn't make any difference. They never broke and never got damaged. And I drank soda FREQUENTLY, ate candy & popcorn...almost all the stuff they say not to (aside from gum chewing, because I don't like that anyway.) I'm not sure that it really DOES make a huge difference.
