A national criminal history website?

Can some one provide an australian based website for looking at peoples backgrounds and criminal history?

  I think the freedom of information and privacy acts prevent that kind of thing. The only way I think I know of is if you get a private investigator - and even still, they're bound to withold certain information - unless they're completely unscrupulous and in which case you need to make sure they don't try and blackmail you for the fact that you've assisted them to break the law. But hey, there's a chance I'm not fully informed on the issue and maybe you can get info for backgrounds and criminal history for those living in Australia.
