My son has hit the terrbile twos. Its exactly how everyone told me it would be with him trying to push and see how far he can get. Whats the best way to work through these times when in public? There is no time-out at the grocery store!

I gave my daughter a swat while in the store. If she continued to misbehave, I took her to the ladies room and paddled her. I only had to take her to the ladies room twice. After that, all I had to do was remind her.

gosh, my 2 kids are 3 and 4 and sorry to disillusion you but the 3 year old is now in the terrible threes!! she is a nightmare, ive gotten to the stage now if we go into a shop or supermarket and she starts the screaming and carrying on,i walk away and leave her, she soon comes running so i tell her quitely that if she doesnt behave im gonna pack her bags and she will go to the 'home for bad girls' - ok i hear you all saying its terrible to say that, but its the only thing that works for her, other than a slap which i also do sometimes, she is just so determined to get her own way ALL the time. So really i dont think theres a 'magic cure' for this, apart from being firm and making sure they know youre the boss. Honestly ive tried everything, ive even given in just for peace and quiet and gave her the chocolate/juice etc she demands, which yes is wrong, but sometimes you get so sick trying, its easier to give in!! Im hoping she will 'grow' out of it, does your son go to a nursery school at all? mine do they've been on summer holidays and go back next week, i cant wait!! Sorry ive not been much of a help but its good to know im not the only one with the same kind of problem! Let me know how you get on with things sweetone!! lol

Have you ever seen the movie "Commando"? Just hold him upside down by his ankle and tell him that it's your weak arm...he'll probably stop being so terrible. He'll still be two though.

If you know somebody who can babysit him while you go shopping, that would be ideal. Give him a snack before you go shopping if you have to take him. If he is really naughty in the shop, then a warning is good, then a quick swat if he won't stop.

Is it possible to involve him in your shopping. For instance if you are in the produce department tell him I need a fruit that is round and red and have him guess what it is. You could say I need a drink that is white. If he is starting to count you can count how many thing fit into a baggie.

Actually there is time out at the grocery store. I find a corner or a low shopping cart traffic area and have my son/daughter take a seat. Frankly, I ignore people around me. They don't have to deal with the consequences of letting your child get away with acting out in public.

I find the best way is to tell them once,either stop or we go home. If they don't,start heading for the car,once they find out you are serious,they usually come around. If they stop,you can either try going back in,letting them know,one more bad act and this time there will be no going back,it is go home and you mean it. I know this can be hard as you probably need what you went to the store for,but I find after they realize you are serious,they start behaving.
