What constitutes abuse nowadays?

Could one argue that parental discipline constitutes mental/emotional abuse in certain cases? At what point does punishment (ignoring physical punishment for this question) become abuse?

  • Answer:

When it causes undue suffering of the child, and traumatizes them and limits their long term ability to function and to be happy and well-adjusted.

Nope, in fact not discipline your child is a form of neglect and abuse as well as not doing your parental duty. The only time this argument could be made is if the "discilpline" does not fit the child's act or is done only to humiliate or cause mental pain.
