What is the difference between a social service worker and a social worker? i don tknow what they are called in the States but herein Canada they seem to be two different things.

I believe I can give you an answer that is close to home. A social worker is sort of like a psychologist. They advise and cousel troubled people and try to help them learn to get along with others and fit into society. A social SERVICES worker is simply someone who is employed by a department of the government called the Department of Social Services which provides different types of assistance to the public such as counseling (possibly by a social worker working for the Department) as well as other types of assistance.
