Excerpts from a wikipedia article: Recent studies support use of tea tree oil in skin care and treatment of various ailments. Tea tree oil is a known antifungal agent, effective against dermatophytes found on the skin. Shampoo with 5% tea tree oil has been shown to be an effective treatment for dandruff due to its ability to treat Malassezia furfur, the most common cause of the condition. According to the Brittish military research between the two world wars, the "Melaluka Alternafolia" tree produces an oil that is an excellent mild antibiotic ... speeds healing even better than Aloe Vera ... and is even a good organic solvent so it can be used in soaps ... There was a MLM company called "Melaluka" that had many excellent products based on the oil from the tree ... they went out of business due to some bad business practices of a few of their distributors, but their "Melaluka" products were the best.

Tea Tree oil is a *very* effective treatment for a number of skin conditions. Keloids are, however, a whole other "order" of skin condition which I'm sure you know if you have experience with them. It may be one of those situations where there's a whole lot of "your mileage may vary" wiggle room.

Vitamin E oil is supposedly effective as well.

I've heard it works very well, and it is a natural antibiotic. Make sure to be diligent about using it - most natural cures require consistent application.

I've had keloids on my chest for over 10 years and I feel for anyone who is dealing with scars. It has affected my life and ego more than i would like to think about. In the past year, i've made it my resolve to either get rid of them or get over them. In this process, though, I think trying to get rid of them has helped me come to terms with them. It's been several years since i've been able to take my shirt off since i knew the questions would be inevitable. I'm sick of that feeling and anxiousness. I know the psychosocial effects of the keloids and the like. With that said, here is what i've tried.... - 3-5 months of cordran tape. cut to form of keloid and taped over scarred area for at least ten hours. This method has dramatically reduced the size of 3 of the 5 keloids on my upper chest. The redness discoloration remains but i'm happy with the progress. I've stopped using this method since the keloids that they were effective on are essentially flat now and further use would only thin the skin that is there. For these three keloids, i've been massaging them with vitamin e creme (its called 'genes', just look it up on amazon) that has worked to keep them moisturized. I think it has helped with the discoloration. - 5-FU injections. *i've tried the steroid injections which hurt just as much but were not as effective for me*. The 5-fu hurts like hell but has definitely reduced the size of the 2 keloids that are also on my chest but over my sternum. Just by touch i can tell they have gotten flatter. These 2 keloids are about 1-1/2 inches wide but less then 2 cm in height. The cordran was effective on these also but these 2 would go back to their regular size when i stopped the cordran. The clinic that I get the 5-fu shot at only do injections once a month since the drug is only good for 2 days after they receive it. They are supposed to add another day since i had to skip a month between my first and second injections. I am scheduled to have my third injection at the end of this month. The PA has injected these 2 keloids a few times each session so far because of their width. I'm seeing progress and very hopeful. I've used so many products and gone through so much pain to get rid of these that i'm skeptical of anything, but i think i'm on the right path. Good luck to anyone that is pain, whether physical or mental, because of scars. My heart goes out to you. Little about me. I'm a Korean male. 31 yrs old.
