In Windows Movie Maker when I put the clip in the playback section there is audio but no video, the screen stays black.

Thought I'd just post this question and answer here, many people seem to be having this problem and I seem to be the only one with any kind of real answer. Many people seemed to think it was a missing codec, when it is actually more likely it's codecs that are conflicting. Here's how I fixed the problem. Open WMM Go to tools and click options Go to compatibility Only have these programs checked: RealMedia Splitter DivX Demux DivX Decoder Filter Intervideo MPEG4 Video Decoder Click okay Exit out of WMM Reopen WMM and everything should be fine You might have codecs that are different or you might not have the ones listed above at all. So you might have to experiment a little. But it is definitely a conflict problem. I figured this out by doing a system restore to a time when WMM was functioning properly. I went into the program and wrote down what items were checked and unchecked in the compatibility list. Then I quit out of WMM and went about reinstalling any programs that had been lost during the restore. I went back into the compatibility list after doing this and found two codecs that had come with the program I had downloaded. I performed the tasks written above and everything worked fine again.
