How to share my printer on home network?

Can anyone explain to me, in detail, how to set up a home network? I have a wireless network set up now that lets all of our computers access the internet, but we'd like to be able to share files& a printer between them all as well. What do I need to do?

  • Answer:

I'm going to assume you're running Windows (I don't know about Macs). On each computer on your network, when you select a folder (containing files) or a printer connected to the computer, you click on "Properties" and look for a "Sharing" tab or page, where you can instruct those particular folders or devices to be shared on the network. At least try that to get started... Good luck!

To setup the file and sharing, you need to run the 'Setup home or small office network' in the 'My Network Places folder', and give all the computer the same workgroup name. Als once you have done this i am assuming you have a router, so on the router you will then have to make sure that UPnP is enabled on the network. Then to share the actual fiel you do the what the other guy 'xprofessor' has said, for printer its really easy as you right click and share it. Simple, Easy!!!
