I know a guy who is really mean to everyone. However, people say that he has a heart of gold so no one should let it get to them. What do you think? Should people be allowed to get away with things just because others think they have a heart of gold?

It doesn't matter what other people think about this gold heart person......What do you think? I myself don't have time or patience for mean nasty people. Okay, well..... maybe a minute, just long enough to tell them what I think of them. hahaha Don't let him be mean to you, on the assnine opinions of others!

If he really did have a 'heart of gold' metaphorically speaking, he shouldn't be that mean. And the thing I don't get is that people say he's actually a good guy. Is it his family members who are saying that he's decent? I don't think people should be able to get away with things because of that. And for letting him get away with that stuff it's telling him it's okay to keep acting like this and also tells him that he's being supported in his behaviour. And if that's the case, the people supporting his behaviour may as well be undertaking it and doing it to everyone else themselves!

I'm sorry but that's stupid, it's like saying "well, my husband abuses and beats me, but he still says he loves me".... It's like that, just nothing but deceit.

It is about what you think, not wat the rest thinks of him. But it`s always better to confince others of your opinion, rather then go at it alone.

No. I'm not mean to people on purpose. When I am I either apologise, as I didn't realise I was being hurtful, or they deserve it. However it's very rare I'm mean to people. I struggle with girls who are attracted to me but I don't feel the same way. i can't talk about my 'feelings', because I think I'd make them upset. that's the issue. If I don't see them upset, I feel better. I have emotional issues, which are gradually being dealt with, but that is no excuse to be mean. i try not to be, and when I am it's acccidental. this guy has no excuse. Someone needs to batter him. (And not in the sense of fish and chips)

Many people put up false fronts out of defensiveness. Some do pretend to be "mean" who really are not. It is the really mean ones who pretend to have a "heart of gold" that you need to watch more. It is not always easy to tell. I am agasinst any kind of false front.

Definitely not. That would mean that anyone who means well can get away with being mean or doing the wrong thing. I say, if you mean well, DO WELL! Don't ask everyone to make excuses for you.

People should be accountable for their actions no matter what their heart is made of.

Here is my thing with this whole question - is it just YOUR opinion that he is mean to everyone, or everyone's opinion. I work with a woman who is allergic to wheat. She made PASTA one day for a potluck lunch we had, and then was complaining about how she was all itchy and stuff. I said "Why don't you just take some benedryl or claritin? I have some..." and she started to cry. I don't get people all of the time. I was really being serious, and trying to help her out. She thought I was being mean.
