What can I do with goat's milk?

I have never had goats milk and I am wondering: What is the difference between goat's milk and cow's milk? (other than the obvious!)

  • Answer:

Every mammal's milk is designed to be of most maximum use to its young. The differences may taste and look minimal to us, but baby animals know what is theirs. Goats' milk seems to cause fewer allergic reactions to humans than cow's milk, but most Europeans drink cows' milk because it is most common.

Goats milk is usually richer than cows milk. Very tasty, if I do say so myself. We used to keep a herd of goats and use the milk, make cheese and other things. Some people say there is an 'off' taste to the milk but that only happens if the buck is kept with the does. He give off a terrible musty smell that can get absorbed into the surroundings. But most good milk parlors keep the buck far from milking does. Since goats tend to be kept in pastures, what else may happen is that what they eat can give a slight taste to the milk if you're not careful about it. Like if they were to go graze on those garlic chives lol!! But that only affects the one milking, luckily. Also goats milk is natural homogenized so all the cream is IN the milk, it doesn't readily float to the top to get skimmed off or poured off like from cows milk. Even though there is more fat in goats milk, it isn't as unhealthy as the fat in cows milk because it is naturally homogenized. It's in a form that the body handles very well. So enjoy the extra richness and fat:-) I wouldn't worry too much about pasteurizing the milk either. I have never done it as that is one of the benefits of drinking raw milk. Many people, especially children who are allergic to cow's milk are not allergic to goat's milk. Goat milk has greater amounts of vitamin A than cow milk. Also, goats convert all carotenes into vitamine A, creating a white type of milk. Goats milk is also higher in minerals, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, chlorine and maganese.

not much, maybe a little fattier than most regular cows milk. It's still pretty good but I still prefer mine from the moo moo.

Status

Nothing much. I don't really taste a difference. If anything it is a little stronger, but I get mine from the goat so I don't process mine i just boil it to pasteurize it.
