What are some good RTS games for pc?

Just about all the good PC games I know of are either RTS or First-Person Shooters. Can anyone recommend some good PC games that don't fit into those 2 categories?

  • Answer:

Bethesda Softworks "Elder Scrolls" games, especially Morrowind and Oblivion, are really good role playing games. They act a bit like FPS games but the main RPG focus means you can spend quite a lot of time advancing in the game without having to be a juggernaut space marine or similar over-muscled hero. If you play them on the PC then you gain access to all kinds of Mods which help enhance and extend game playability. Eidos has the "Thief" series of games. "Thief: The Dark Project," "Thief: The Metal Age," and "Thief: Deadly Shadows" are all technically FPS games, but the added twist is that you are encouraged, and frequently required, *not to kill anyone* while playing those games. The emphasis is on stealth and puzzle solving. If you prefer puzzle solving and want a complete break from anything even resembling a FPS, the "Myst" series is a good choice. I've recently played "Myst III: Exile" (a few years old but still playable) which stars Brad Dourif as the main character (a victim of the "Myst" world creator's sons, now out for revenge). There are lots of games like "Myst" out there, basically look for any game which features puzzles but no selection of advanced weaponry. If you feel like controlling the lives of artificially intelligent people, "The Sims 2" allows you to completely control the lives of people you design, from birth to death.

I just got the Desperate housewives game. It's a little slow, but great for me because I've never played a game like this before, besides Sims. My son gave me Sims 2 and I absolutely hated it. It bored me to tears. The Desperate Housewives game is kinda fun because you can snoop through people's houses and have to learn all the gossip and secrets. It is definitely a girly game, though, but games similar to it might be an option. From what I understand, the Myst games are similar, you have to look around and find the clues and figure out what they mean, and they're not "girly"! lol

We miss our girl!

The Elder Scrolls series are good, and so is Sim City 4.
