What is the best english' school in Toronto?

I was thinking of enrolling my daughter in French immersion in Toronto. I am worried that she will not develop sufficient skills in English if she is speaking French all day at school. Should I be worried?

  • Answer:

I support these types of schools programs as long as both languages are spoken in the home. The different structures I believe actually help expand the mind as they require different thought patterns and make a person realize the cultural differences and similarities.

I have my 5 year old in a Spanish immersion school. If anything, her English is better because she understands the concept of how language is put together. She gets the differences and asks about them. Do not worry at all.

Studies indicate children pick up a second language much more quickly the younger they are. Your child stands a good chance at being fluent in both French and English if your language in the home is English. I think it's a great idea. I wish someone had done that with me.

No, if you speak English with her at home, and you watch English television programs and movies.

She'll be fine. In fact, knowing another language, one that is more structured than floppy english, will most likely improve her verbal and communication skills in both languages.
