How do I find a person from another country?

How do I find out if a person died in another country as I have no contact with anyone in that country that a friend has died in and no one will help me to find out if it is for real or not.

  • Answer:

If you know the area they died in you may be able to search the papers there. Look on the internet. If it is a developed country and you can read the language try a search there. You can also contact the town hall or government authorities in your friend's location by letter and ask for information. Of course these things depend on whether you can speak the language. Another possibility is to contact the embassy of your country that is in the country of your friend. Often your embassy may be happy to help one of its citizens or at least give you an idea where to start.

If the person is an American citizen, call the State Department, which is usually notified whenever an American citizen dies in a foreign country. If not an American citizen, perhaps the consulate of the nation of which he/she is/was a citizen could help you find out.
