Check out the Swedish singer Rigmor Gustafsson. Nice ballads. Among the classics, I would go for Chet Baker, and some recordings from Sonny Rollins of the late 1950s. And Miles Davis of course (Kind of Blue).

I'd recommend "if you can find" Lee Morgan. Otherwise Freddie Hubbard. Otherwise I'd have to agree Chris Botti. Try Rick Braun as well.
