Who owns and operates Snopes?

Company A owns Company B which owns and operates the business, money is taken from the business and is found out by Company A and presses charges against the person. Who has the right to press charges? Company A or B? Technically whose money was it?

  • Answer:

Anyone can press charges. All "press charges" means is to encourage the DA (or the cop) to file charges against a person. The ONLY person who can choose to charge the person is the DA. In fact, often times a community group will be so outraged by some act, that they will press the DA to charge. The DA will often charge in this case (if they have enough evidence) because they are usually elected officials who want to get re-elected. Many people have the erroneous perception that a victim can choose whether or not the DA will prosecute. This perception comes from tv shows like cops, in which cops often use the phrase "do you want to press charges." When cops ask this, what they are actually asking is "are you willing to testify and pursue this case?" Cops do not want to arrest and book someone when tomorrow you (the victim) will refuse to testify, which will result in the case being dropped. However, if a cop has enough evidence to convict without you, they will arrest whether you want them to or not.

Other answers

It was Company B's money and only they can press charges. But Company A, as sole stockholder, can appoint its own people to be the Board and officers of Company B and cause them to take action.
