I'm 16 and in the 10th grade. I want to get my GED but everyone I talk to tells me just to stick it out and get my highschool diploma. But I've already made so many mistakes with my credits. And school just isn't my thing,it's so boring. What should I do?

I dropped out of school at 16 and it was the beginning of tenth grade...to be with my then boyfriend, who asked me to have his child - and he's no where around now!! I totally regret dropping out now. If i would have just stuck it out I would have came across opportunities to get ahead faster and easier than it is now. And yes GOOD employers do care if you have a diploma because it shows that you are willing to be committed to a goal that they may set before you. The only ones that may not care are grocery stores and fast food places, but if that's all you're willing to settle for, then go for it. But right now I'm 23 with 2 children and having a hard time finding funding to start college. If i would have stayed in school, I'm sure the funds would have been presented to me. yes i went and got my GED the same year, but it's just not the same.

What is it about school that is not your thing? Are you academically capable of getting the diploma? or do you just want to leave school? What are your plans? Hey, if you really think that's what you should do, they you can do it. A GED is better than nothing, right? Though, I'm sure just staying in school and getting your highschool diploma wouldn't be quite that hard, it's your choice.

You only have a year left. Just stick it out, you'll be glad you did!

We used a school outreach program that allows the students to do their work at home on their own. They attend class twice a week to get their assignments and take their tests. This program allows students to work at their own pace, and you can work while you are completing the requirements for a diploma. In California, you can participate in the program until your 21st birthday, if it takes longer for you to get your credits. Ask your councilor if there is a program like that in your school.

Be cool stay in school, It's worth it

I think that not everyone is made for school. That you can get your GED and still go to college, if you choose, or get a certification (actually a much better choice nowadays) in a field. I also feel that it's never too late to make up credits that you messed up. If you want to go to a good college and get a real degree then a HS diploma is necessary. If you do go to college take course to prepare you for a real career, not a degree in 'whatever'. I think that you are young and there are so many options for you, that you need to follow your heart. But before you decide to drop out and get your GED I suggest that you finish this year and think long and hard this summer.

If you can't pass classes in school, what makes you think you can pass classes outside of school?

I dropped out of High school at the end of my 10th year. I was 17 and went into the US Navy. I never got my GED. I highly recommend you stay in school and complete your education. I too hated school. Maybe I was bored as well I don't know now. this may be a surprise to you, but I did graduate from university. It took longer because I didn't have the good basics I would have gotten in High School and it was harder for me. What did I get my degree in? Secondary ecucation...I became a school teacher! Do yourself a favour...stay in school graduate then set out for the world!
