I was just prescribed 50,000iu once a week for the next 6 months. My D number was 22. I have pain symptoms, depression, mental fog, and had been tested for lyme disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and thyroid disease over the past few years. I am hopeful that taking vitamin D will make all my strange symptoms disappear. Has anyone else noticed hair loss as a symptom of low D or anyone else have strange rashes that come and go? I'm glad to finally have found a reason for my symptoms.

I was just diagnosed with low vitamin D and B12, due to complaints of aching muscles, and NO energy. Flu-like symptoms that I cannot shake. I have just taken my second of four doses of 50,000iu of Vitaman D3 which I take weekly. I, too, am interested in how long this will take before I get better. I am also taking monthly B-12 shots. I fear that I may have a malabsorption problem due to IBS issues. I go back to the doctor to have blood levels checked in 3 weeks.

I've been taking Vitamin D 50,000IU for the past 7 weeks, am starting on my 8th week. I didn't start feeling better until after my 4th week. My Vitamin D Level was 8, one of the lowest my Dr has seen, now I'm feeling more normal, last weekend I even rode my bike nearly 3 miles. This all started Feb. 2008, I had to quit working last May 2008, had been in constant chest pain, all over flu like pain, was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia then told to take Celebrex, Neurontin, Vicodin, Baclofen and a couple other drugs but I did not want to take these drugs because once you start, you have to be weaned off them. After a few months, I found a new Dr who test my Vitamin D level along with a Dexascan, I am so glad I changed Dr's.

Deficiency symptoms: fatigue, trouble sleeping, low energy, low mood. Tested at 10. Given 50,000 of D-2 once per week until not deficiency. Started to feel better after about a month, but continued to improve after that too. All symptoms eventually went away. Now take 3,000 of D-3 every day as maintenance dose.

50,000iu vitamin D is not given as far as I know. Usual daily supplements don't contain more than 400iu.
