What is a postal order?

I finally listed my 1st item on Ebay. One of the questions a buyer had was could they pay by postal money order. Is it safe to accept a postal money order? What is a postal money order?

  • Answer:

Money orders are safe because it needs to be purchased in order to be issued one. So the money is there and just waiting for you to cash it. It does take longer than paypal though...that's why I don't like accepting them.

A Postal money order is a money order issued by the post office. They are somewhat safe. Look at the buyers feedback. That is your best indication of if this buyer is good or not. If they have a lot of negatives or only a limited history I would take paypal only.

A postal money order is just like sending a check. When I sell stuff on ebay, GA or etsy, I ask for paypal, well concealed cash at their own risk or POSTAL money order. I don't take any other sort of money order though. If you are in the US its pretty safe. Heck, sending cash is even safe, I've never had a problem getting a cash payment in the mail. However paypal is just sooo much easier. Heh.

It's a money order purchased at the post office. I only ever accepted credit cards through paypal when I sell anything on ebay. You can make a free business account on paypal and don't have to pay any fees to accept credit card payments.
