Is anyone familiar with asthma caused by bird droppings or parrot dander. My symptons are chest discomfort and shortness of breath . Doctor has me on Qvar 80 twice daily. Could it be a fungal infection instead?

Answer:
It is not an asthmatic condition, it is associated with pneumonia, which can lead to your symptoms. That particular form of pnuemonia is called Chlamydia psittaci (Psittacosis) also known as the bird flu. It is a gram-negative bacterium in the respiratory tract and feces in a variety of birds. It is transmitted from birds to humans by aerosol or direct contact. It is a bacterial infection and you should have a culture done to verify and rule it out.
