After my mother passed away, I was left with a house full of antiques and collectibles. I tried selling by garage sales and auctions with little success. Nobody is buying right now. It seems these items should have some value to someone. What to do?

I say eBay. Maybe get a nearby antiques shop owner to take a look and value things.

Store them and wait until things improve. Besides, they will be escalating in value whilst in storage.

do your homework on the internet. i collect records and old stereo equipment and have spent many late nights reading about the finer points and subtleties of what's out there. it may be that what you have is not quite competitive in a tight market. but here's a more serious question; first of all i'm sorry about your mom, i lost mine last year. is it just hard for you to let go of her things?

What about eBay & Craigslist. I have a friend who's moving and has basically sold everything on craigslist.

Find an antiques or estate dealer who specializes in such things and have them do an honest evaluation. A lot of "antiques" are really old junk and their value is more sentimental than monetary. Similarly, some things you don't expect have significant value. A professional who's engaged in the market will be able to provide sound advice.
