Most superstring theories are ruled out - even the Standard Model relies on a Higgs Boson of less than 180GeV if the Standard Model of physics is not to go badly out of sync at the energies of the LHC. A Higgs Boson of 180GeV or less should be easily found by LHC, so if the Higgs Boson is not found, some of the stranger theories out there will have to be resurrected. So in a way, no Higgs Boson will be very much more newsworthy than finding one. 120GeV is the predicted mass.
