What do you think of the training experience abroad?

As I understand it, the new way of CPR training eliminates the breathing step. Only continuous compressions. Anyone have any teachings or experience with the new method? What do you think about no breathing?

    I got my recert a week ago. We were told this was coming and why. To get recertified, we still had to do breaths because the new way wasn't officially rolled out when we took the course. The key is keeping the blood flowing. If there are no obstructions to the airway, it has been determined that there is most likely enough air getting in the lungs to transfer oxygen to the blood. When you stop pumping the heart to deliver oxygen, the blood stops flowing from the heart and that is a bigger threat to the patient than the oxygen.

Yeah i just took a class a month or 2 ago. They changed the amounts of compressions and that didnt seem right but they told us to still do the breaths.

I get CPR training every year. We use Red Cross instructors. They said this was a new method but they still are teaching that you give breaths. They said the chest compressions cause the lungs to expand and contract and will supply oxygen to the blood. The thing that surprised me was the survival rates when using CPR is around 5%. We also train to use automated external defibrillators which greatly increase the survival rates.

I was reading about it yesterday. Apparently it will work best on adults who have some residual oxygen in their bloodstreams. If the person was a victim of asphyxiation like drowning or carbon monoxide poisoning or if they are a child with smaller blood volume then they will have no oxygen reserves and will require breathing and compression too. Something to keep in mind.
