Bought a new head unit?

I have a 2000 VW Jetta with the monsoon stereo. I bought the original slave CD player to add to the system. I made all of the connections but the CD player only works/has power when its casing is touching the casing of the head unit. Did I miss something?

  I think you're missing a ground connection for the slave CD player. Try running a wire from the casing of the slave CD to a bolt on the body or the negative battery terminal. If it works, that's your answer. If that's your problem, you've got two options: 1) Check all of the head unit/CD connections to see if one of them is supposed to supply a ground, and replace that one. or 2) Run a ground wire from the CD casing to either the head unit casing or a body ground. I'd recommend running the wire to the head unit case to prevent a problem known as a 'ground loop', which can cause noise. Good luck
