I'm going into graphic design in university in the fall. It's a very competitive program to get into. I heard there will be a few group projects and presentations. I want to befriend my classmates, but I get very competitive. Any advice?

One must befriend with non-competitive people if one is too competitive.

When you have to do group work make sure you "listen" to the others in the group and agree on ideas/ approaches rather than "waiting to speak" and forcing your own ideas on the group. Try to socialise a little with others on the course before you have to work in groups so that it is a little more comfortabl when you are made to work together.
