Does anyone own a sugar glider?

Does anyone have a sugar glider as a pet? If so does it really make a good pet?

    I don't personally have one but a close friend "did" have one. They are cute and cuddly but they need a friend or they can die of lonelyness. You can carry them around in a little pouch tied around your neck but you have to change it several times a day...they poop in their sleep too! So it stinks! My friend use to take hers to work since it slept during the day but the odor was too much! She finally ended up giving it away! They make a lot of noise at night unless you keep it in a dark place during the day time hours so it will get use to sleeping at night! They are nocturnal!! I hope I spelled that right! And you never feed them dog or cat food..I have seen them sold at flea markets, this will kill them for sure...they need fruits and sweet foods, no dog or cat foods!!

I have a pair, and know breeders. They make excellent pets IF you are prepared to take care of them. They are not for most people as exotic pets require a complex diet and specific conditions. If you have only 1 glider, which I do not recommend, you will need at least 4 hours EVERYDAY to play with them and take care of them. If you get a pair, you well need to set aside at least 2 hours EVERYDAY. I love my gliders and would not give them up for the world, but they are a LOT of work. I've known people who kept them and bred them. They are not like hamsters. They are easy to care for if you are willing to give them lots of interactive time. You need to bond with it and possibly have more than one as they love being with friends, whether human or other sugar gliders. They need fresh food each day. Here's a good page on their diet and feeding them fresh food. http://www.sugar-gliders.com/diet.htm Their cage needs to be cleaned 1-2 times a week. They live a very long time, up to 15 years so be prepared to have a pet for a long time. They also are nocturnal and will be awake most of the night so keeping one or more in your room won't work lol!
